THE FIRST TRIP
For Learn Away's very first trip abroad, we took 13 students aged 11-14 to a school in Cambridge, UK. The students lived for two weeks in a boarding school, and studied 30 hours of English over the course of their stay. Cultural and social excursions were to London, Cambridge, and Greenwich.

THE SCHOOL
The school was a boarding school located in the centre of Cambridge, a 5 minute walk from Cambridge University.
As the school is a boarding school during the academic year, all the facilities needed were present on campus, including a large canteen, a sports centre, and the latest technology in the classrooms.
We felt that the location of the school was absolutely perfect for what we needed - the campus was peaceful and green, and close enough to the centre for evening strolls into the centre for walking tours or shopping.

ACTIVITIES
Outside of lessons, students took part in a huge range of activities. Included in the programme were numerous sports, arts and crafts, cooking, photography and journalism, and many more.
Some of our students also participated in the school's academies; on offer were tennis, robotics, and horseriding.
CULTURAL EXPERIENCES
The trips offered by the school were three full-day excursions:
-
London
-
Cambridge
-
Greenwich
As group leaders we were there with the group for the entire day to show them around London, while some of our older students chose to spend time separately with their new friends from the school instead.
LEARN AWAY TRIPS
On top of this, three trips were organised exclusively for Learn Away students.
-
An evening walking tour around the centre of Cambridge with a local guide aka Andy
-
The Cambridge University Botanical Gardens
-
The cathedral city of Ely
We organise Learn Away trips not only to add value to our trips, but also to stay in line with the educational side of things. Trips in smaller groups to lesser-known places are a fantastic way for students to see and learn things that they otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to.
AWARDS
On the last day of the course, the school presented awards to one student in every class, residential block (house), and activity group.
As a grand testament to our focus on learning during the trip (starting with two pre-departure labs that we hold here in Italy before leaving), our group received a total of 8 awards. With just 13 students in our group, and 240 students on campus in total, we thought this was a pretty great haul, and were incredibly proud of our students.
